Arrive at Krakow John Paul II International Airport.
Group transfer to the hotel for check-in.
Lunch on own at hotel or nearby.
This afternoon, meet your guide in the hotel lobby and get ready to tour the area.
Enjoy a walking tour of Krakow’s charming Old Town, including a visit to Market Square, St. Mary’s Basilica, and Cloth Hall. See Wawel Castle, a stunning Renaissance-style castle that has been the residence of Polish kings and queens for centuries.
After the visit to Old Town, cross the bridge from Kazimierz to the site of the Podgorze Ghetto. This was the tragic path taken in 1941 by thousands of Krakow Jews. After being forced into the ghetto, many were then deported to death camps. Others were killed in Podgorze when the ghetto was liquidated in
1943.
Stop at Under the Eagle Pharmacy, a pharmacy inside the ghetto run by Tadeusz Pankiewitz. You’ll hear how this Polish-Catholic pharmacist saved many Jews and was subsequently recognized by Yad Vashem as one of the Righteous among the Nations.
Visit the Umschlagplatz Memorial, now called Ghetto Heroes Square. This was the center of the Podgorze Ghetto. Its “lonely chairs” are a remarkable monument to those who have vanished.
Return to the hotel to relax and refresh for this evening.
Enjoy a Welcome Dinner at the Krakow JCC, followed by a dialogue
with Jonathan Ornstein, JCC Chief Executive Officer who will talk about the JCC’s role in the Ukrainian refugee crisis, as well as Jewish life today in Krakow.
Golden Tulip Kazimierz, Kraków.
